Updated: Apr 3

A SUSTAINABLE WOOLLY OASIS

For 10,000 years, natural wool has been one of the most effective all-weather protection known to man. The world of wool bedding, where comfort, durability, and environmental consciousness coexist harmoniously.

We explore the remarkable properties of wool, its long-term value, and the easy-care instructions for preserving and enhancing your wool bedding experience.

Nature's Perfect Material

Wool, a natural fibre with unparalleled qualities, offers a multitude of benefits in bedding and bed fills. It boasts excellent moisture-wicking abilities, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the year. Unlike polyester, wool possesses natural temperature-regulating properties, making it ideal for all seasons and ensuring a comfortable sleep environment. Additionally, wool is highly durable, providing lasting performance and value that far surpasses its initial price. #functionalluxury

Tip: Beware of 'Down Alternatives' or 'Microfiber' Fills – Often Polyester Blends in Disguise.

Why Choose Wool

While polyester, rayon-bamboo and similar greenwashed material may seem like an affordable choice, it comes at a significant environmental cost. Polyester production consumes substantial amounts of energy and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change. Furthermore, polyester is non-biodegradable, taking hundreds of years to decompose in landfills and releasing harmful chemicals into the environment. By choosing wool, you opt for a sustainable alternative that supports ethical sourcing, minimizes waste, and reduces your ecological footprint.

Did you know? On average, a person spends tens of thousands of dollars and sends 1200 lbs of long-decomposing bedding materials to the wasteland in their lifetime.[1]

Invest in Quality, Save in the Long Run

Wool products, with proper care, can last for generations, outperforming inorganic fillings that quickly lose their loft and comfort. When you factor in the reduced waste and the need for fewer replacements, the price per night of sleeping in luxurious wool becomes a worthwhile investment. Incredibly durable, wool surpasses synthetics by decades.

St Genève's Wool Care Products

At St Genève, we prioritize the care and longevity of your wool bedding. Our range of wool care products ensures that your investment remains in optimal condition for years to come.

Among our offerings, the St Dormier wool protector takes center stage. Specially designed*, this protector provides an extra layer of defense against spills, stains, and dust mites while maintaining the breathability and natural qualities of wool.

General Wool Care

Wool bedding requires extra care for longevity and performance. Dry cleaning or spot cleaning is recommended, and occasional airing out rejuvenates the fibres. Wool has a natural ability to self-clean itself and its moisture-absorbing properties resist dust mites and bacteria.

Tip: Always use and change sheets, and duvet covers often to keep your wool-filled bedding fresh and clean for longer.

Just like a fine wool sweater, our protectors need a little extra care. Our cotton terry cover is a special type of weave that maximizes absorption, to ensure the driest, most comfortable sleeping environment.

  • Dry cleaning is recommended.

  • Machine wash* at cool temperature on a short cycle.

  • Use the maximum water level, high spin and low agitation in full load (ideally with other St. Dormeir products or towels).

  • Use an enzyme-free detergent. Do not bleach or use a detergent that contains bleach.

  • Do not machine dry.

  • Hang to dry. Our St. Dormeir protectors generally dry overnight, and this is the best way to protect them. Drape over a shower rod, a door top, or even across a couple of kitchen chairs.

*MADE TO FIT: After laundering, you will find your Dormeir protector will appear to have shrunk a little. However, when you put the protector back on your mattress, it stretches easily to fit. They are made this way to always fit properly without bunching. Pillow protectors are made slightly oversize, and will fit perfectly after the first wash.

Tip: In addition to your pillowcase, always use and change pillow protectors often to keep your wool-filled bedding fresh and clean for longer.

Ensure the longevity of your wool bedding with these care instructions.
